  • G-Buffer Zpass vs V-Ray Zpass for use in post DOF (lenscare)

We've had this issue for some time now. We would like to use the V-Ray zpass for creating post DOF effects in fusion/AE (Lenscare Frilschuft) but that pass, even with filtering turned off, does not go far enough on the edges to provide accurate edge information for the Lenscare plugin. HOWEVER, the G-Buffer Zpass is correct and extends one pixel beyond object edges giving Lenscare the proper amount of overlap. Why not just use the G-Buffer pass and call it a day then? Well, the G buffer z pass does not support near and far values and can become unpredictable when you have things moving around.

So, how in the world do we get a useable zpass out of V-Ray that is compatible with our post DOF plugin? I imagine many other people in the V-Ray world have faced this issue. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    -chad

Looks like you are facing a similar problem we had : http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...able-Filtering
We use Frilshuft with After Effect too.

Leaving "invert zdepth" off does not fix this issue. The zepth still needs an extra pixel on the edges of "coverage". Have you been able to find a workaround?

In AE I recently found that using an adjustment layer with lens blur applied and using the z map as the depth map, in the lens blur option there is a "Repeat edge pixels" that seems to be working for me for the moment.

The way we found to make an aliased Zdepth is a separate pass with draft DMC settings, no GI, no Light, no materials...
Zdepth render element is bug and cannot be extract from diffuse.
