Many 3dsmax prepasses are done with only 1 thread. By disabling the HT, you'll have 1 processor working on it instead of 50% of one only (with a dual system). Sorry for the quick&dirty example, but that's almost the case.
This is not true, what you see is'nt what you get. The taskmanager is showing 25% cpu usage with one thread and HT enabled, but this does'nt mean that the thread is using only 50% from a physical cpu. The performance will drop only about 10% (max) compared to disabled HT. CPU 0 & 1 are physical cpu's, cpu 2 & 3 are logical (HT). So disabling HT is no solution, because the system performance will suffer, winXP is optimized for HT. A better way is to disable the HT sometimes for the application only (by setting the cpu affinity in your taskmanager). Just disable CPU 2 & 3 for max to find the best performance.
i guess there is no temp-issue, the intel board is using the thermal throttling feature, if the temperature is too high, your chipset can adjust the CPU speed downward (without any message ;( )
btw: the 2,8 is a prestonia core, not a prescott.
sure, if the heatsink is'nt fitted 100% exaclty, the chip can't throttle fast enough downward and a good cooling is basic for a stable system. maybe you can try to lower the cpu multiplicator for testing.
but please check your ram (specs) and casetemp before that.
Temperature is OK... i was trying to flash my BIOS for 2 hours... i cant boot up in NON-HIMEM environemnt..whatever it is. I booted with different boot disks, same thing. Phoenix Flash utility complains that i got HIMEM on, there is no way i can switch it off. bloody hell, this is tiring
you need to create a boot disk by formating the floppy disk using dos 6.2 or windows 98 or me
at dos promt in dos: type format a:/s or using win98 go to add/remove program and click create boot or start up disk then unzip the bios to the disk...
thanks, but as i said, i've made: 98 Bottable disk, WinXP botable disk, DOs 6.2...windows ME boot disk. Non of them r working properly. I still get error regarding that i should run DOS in non-himem environment.
