  • MATTE SHADOW OBJECT with TRANSPARENCY

    Please help,
is there a way to have a transparent object like a plane of glass in front of a matte shadow object like a wall?
I am trying to show an art installation rendered into an existing photo,
I am getting a slight shadow thru the glass show up on the matte object, but just not transparent enough.

    this is killing me

    thanks

    WTF?
did I stump everyone on this board or can it not be done
so after downloading the file from this tutorial here
    http://jg3d.blogspot.com/2009/07/tut...atte-with.html,
    and looking at his settings
I decided to do some tests with the settings in this file
    here are my results

    http://forums.chaosgroup.com/images/attach/jpg.gif
the pic on the left has a plane with matte shadow settings (notice the glass color is dark and not very transparent, and the shadow is also dark
the pic on the right is what I am looking for, nice clear glass with soft shadows

    what is the deal here?
can this really not be done with either matte shadow or with a Vraymtlwrapper?
    what am I doing wrong

Would it be possible to attach that scene so we could have a look what's going on.

        vray_shadow_matte_tutorial_finish_file test.zip
ok here is the test file
it seems to work with an old school standard max material and just the opacity set to 5
        go figure?

Activate the Affect Shadows checkbox under the Refraction Layer of the Glass material and the shadow will become transparent.

            Hey thanks for your help,
the shadow looks correct depending on the amount of transparency, but my issue is more about the glass object itself.
Why does it look so dark and brown and not very transparent

Its because the material behind the glass is dark:

Activate Matte for refl/refr option from the Matte Properties and Refraction rays that pass through the glass will hit the background instead of matte-plane behind the glass:

                  thanks that did it
Activating the Matte for refl/refr option from the Matte Properties solved the issue
                  I swear I tried that
                  thanks for all your help
