  • Making a stone "dry wall"

    Hi guys,
I need to make something like this

Similar, our walls will have some mortar.

I tried with stones that had flattened tops and multiscatter. It was ok but I always had stones sticking out where horizontal and verticals meet. Client didn't like that.
I guess the other way would be with texture, but since I need it to be rough I need to use displacement. The problem is that my best stone textures are from arroway, and as we discussed a while back in my thread, their bump maps can't really be used as displacement maps.

So any suggestions for pro stone textures with good displacement maps?

You can just model one segment of a wall by placing stones by hand, say 3*3 or 4*4 meters, then duplicate it to one side, and adjust the edges so that it does tile, then do the same thing for the other side. Once you have tileable arrangement, you can just bake displacement map (and any other maps) out of it, and displacement will create something very close to the hand-modeled segment you did. You can then use some procedural map to add some variance to the texture so that the tiling is not so obvious on long segments.

      You can try with railclone...

Interesting option Recon...will see if I'll use that.

Also paolo, that looks like a great and powerful plug in. I feel it's complicated, but I should try that too.

        thx guys

I purchased a stone wall from 3dsky, which is what I think you are talking about.

Rayfire looks awesome, too bad they don't sell just that one modifier.
Glory, I already checked 3dsky but I haven't found a good enough texture with a map for displacement.

That's great, how much? And don't you need the asperity modifier as well? Actually this plugin is a better (although paying) alternative for floorgenerator, albeit that most of us won't need the physics. They should release a version that bundles the fragmentation modifiers alone without the demolition system.

It wasn't a texture I bought, it was a modeled wall.
