  • Having fun with clouds

Having some fun with clouds , this is VDB exported from Houdini to VRayVolumeGrid and rendered in VRay 3.30
Took about 2 minutes to render i think. On the back it is clear HDRI sky.

Well this one is really just a test and i took a random shape to create. Though i plan to make couple of good photos and copy real clouds in near future. But of course you cannot copy it by 100% because of couple of procedural maps and etc.

Cheers man , though the idea is to check the workflow and create it by myself

Ah ! I though he was asking for a photo to compare.

Did the same thing for a project recently:

                  https://vimeo.com/156542066

                  Clouds at the beginning.
To have a cheap idea of movement i used an animated displacement plus slight move. Worked for us.

Curious as to how such a thing would work on a large scale like the clouds I made for a Lufthansa project (see here:https://vimeo.com/118416338) using Terragen. I'd really like to make some of the mountain range stuff but with Max and Vray - Terragen wasn't the best experience of my life.

That looks quite good ! What where the rendertimes , do you remember ? I think my method will be much faster , though depends on settings and etc. of course. Soon i will show more clouds i've made , polishing them now

Small update , tried to cover sky with clouds.
Also i've changed method of how i create them. Houdini involved !
This is without any post and rendertime was 1 hr on my Y50-70 Lenovo with bruteforce.
I plan to animate thouse , so stay tuned !

This is still in development , so the ones close to camera are pretty low detailed.

pretty cool! you need to add some distance haze to the clouds as they get further away, otherwise the horizon looks too "busy"

                            Thanks
Yeah definetely will use VRayAerialPerspective on next test , wanted to make this one clean , without post or additional effects. Actually they render really fast , surprised with that !

you will be dissapointed as there are some issues with layering up aerialperspective and vrayvolumegrid.. i.e. it doesnt work..
