How do I work out which colours would make displacement vertical up and down ?

    The image here:

Shows the vector colours that define different directions from a base plane. So would it be a combination of all these colours and how would I work out what the final colour would be ?

    Thanks
    Regards

I think you'll have a hard time painting a vector map yourself if that's what you are trying to do. As far as I know vector maps are mainly created automatically by rendering out a high-res mesh info into a vector displacement texture that will later be used on a low-res mesh.

Steve, build it in Zbrush and export from there to max: http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide...lacement-maps/

I did a test render of vector displacement map which was generated by zbrush diagnostic tool.
From this doc: "Now render the 3D model to see a grid with floating 3D shapes in front of a numerated checker. One of the shapes should be a perfect sphere while the others are degenerated models or non-spherical shapes."

I can not get any sphere:

Is there any way to do that?

thats the reason why we use mudbox with ptex for vector dispmaps...
even if we do the sculpting in zbrush...

            Any info about that?
Can vray consume vector displacement maps from zbrush?

Currently V-Ray doesn't support Zbrush vector displacement maps, we have that into our system waiting to be resolved.
This issue has been discussed on several places on the forum like:
