  • Gen Render Elements VRay Property

I have a backdrop I need to add to my scene as a geometry sphere, not an environment map. I have given the sphere a vraylightmtl, but I do not want it to appear in the vrayselfillumination render element. I have disabled "Gen Render Elements" in the vray properties for the sphere, but it is still visible. Is that a bug or am I misunderstanding what this option is for?

I realise I could split them into passes, but I would like to find a solution that allows me to render the background with the foreground elements in 1 pass.

Any ideas on a possible workaround welcome...

    Cheers,
    Olly

    Hi Olly,

I would suggest to divide the unwanted data from the Self Illumination element in post. For that process you can use the multimatte element to generate a mask for the env. sphere. Here is one example:

Generate Render elements doesn't affect all V-Ray render elements so you have to consider another approach.

      Thanks Tashko.

That is how would normally do it - I just saw that option and wondered if that is what is was for.

Could you add an explanation of the option and its limitations to the help doc?
