  • Vray vs Quixel normal map use

    Guys,

I am doing a concept design using 3ds max and quixel for a project I'm working on. I sometimes use quixel to quickly pump out some images to get a feel for what I need to do. Please see images attached Click image for larger version

Name:	SidebySide.jpg

Size:	427.0 KB
ID:	883905.

The image on the right is straight out of Quixel and on the right from Vray. please excuse the rush job on the scene set up for the vray render but it was just to get something for you guys to look at. I still have a lot of work on lighting and shaders.

Quixel is fully utilizing the normal map and by comparison vray mesh looks soft and missing lots of detail found in the normal map.

What can I do to fix this? I would appreciate all and any suggestion. I want same detail on my model.

Blur / filtering on the map? Are you loading using the vraynormal map and then putting a 3dsmax bitmap inside that? The default blur of 1.0 might be ruining all your nice detail. There's another bitmap loader called the vray bmp filter which does nothing to the bitmap at all which could keep it crisp.
