    Hello,

    I'm a bit confused with this option. AFAIK, it should be ON by default, right ?
    Recently, we've discovered that keeping this option activated prevents the scene to be rendered correctly (even if there isn't any atmospherics involved). Then I'm wondering if this should be ON or OFF in our custom maxstart file ...

    I always disabled it because I always get 2 errors if it's enabled, doesn't seem to affect my scenes though. I was going to ask why, but forgot about it. So now I ask; why would I leave it on? I don't work with atmospherics.

        It really doesn't matter what you leave it to; it was added in order to make AfterBurn and Shag:Hair work properly way back when.

          While I understand, I'm wondering why it may prevent some scenes to render correctly as long as it's ON. And these are scenes with no atmospherics at all ... hence my question

            It's only an issue for Standard 3ds Max materials; V-Ray materials have no issues. I have it somewhere on my "to do" list to compute a value for this parameter automatically and to remove it from the UI...

              ok, Vlado, thanks.
              I'll try to investigate a bit more on this scene. It was done by someone not working with us regularly, and this scene had other problems anyway.

                The tool-tip also says having it enabled slows down V-Ray rendering. Is that still a case?

                  Last time I checked, there was not a noticeable slowdown really.

                    Okay. It's still a little annoying as it triggers V-Ray log with warning whenever using camera with some kind of shift (sometimes it happens even randomly for perspective view).

                    But if I don't use AfterBurn and/or Shag:Hair, then having it disabled won't break anything, right? 3ds Max's native effects like Fog and Volume Fog will still work correctly?
