  • Lower contrast than Reinhard?

I've got an HDRI scene with a smidge of added vRay sun added in. I'm having some significant contrast issues and trying to control them. Namely, I've got the inverse gamma of my HDRI map set to 2, and am using Exponential color map when i realized that Reinhard at .05 wasn't fixing the issue. I know I can put a curve on the scene in post, but I prefer to go a little on the flat slid in production. Is there anything else I can do to try to fix this? I don't seem to see any sort of setting for the sun other than intensity or size multiplier.

    Thanks.

Have you tried lowering the intensity of the sun?
It sounds like you are using a HDRI with a sun in that is accurate (ie: too strong to art direct). open it in photoshop and edit it. clip the level of the sun.

You could also control the brightness from the camera exposure tools or via VFB color corrections like Highlight Burn.
Can you show us or even better can you attach a part of the scene so we could see how strong the contrast is?
