  • Stereoscopic renders

    Hey guys,

I have been doing some stereo 6x1 cubic renders to use with GearVR and I run into a lot of issues when doing this and I'm pretty sure it comes from the fact that I am a VRay newbie and got the settings wrong ...

The main issue is the stereo pole merging which doesn't seem to work at all. I did a few tests and whatever setting I use didn't make much difference. Another issue are splotches or noises which happen randomly are extra noticeable when doing stereo renders. Whats the best way to minimize anything random that won't be consistent in both renders?

I am currently using the VRay Stereo dummy with 0.062m eye distance. Everything in the scene is in Meters.

    Thanks in advance!

The pole merging works fine here, but what do you expect to get as a result out of it?

For the splotches, if you render both frames side by side then they should share the same light cache/irradiance map, so there shouldn't be issues.

Maybe it's best to post some example images or send to support@chaosgroup.com so that we can take a look at what's going on.

    Best regards,

      Hey Vlado

From the pole merging, I expected the very top and very bottom to be pretty much the same for both eyes, instead of causing a crossed-eye effect.

For the sploches and artifacts.. yes thank you that makes sense. I usually render each eye separately so I don't lose too much time if something goes wrong but that's the price I pay for it. From now on I will do both instead!

      Thank you,

      Ruben
