  • Mesh Edges

Often, I get these mesh edges when using displacement. How do I get around them? They are hidden and I think I am using 2d displacement.

Yep, 2d displacement. 3D does its own choppery.

What happened to Paul's trick with RailClone for this stuff or is displacement faster for you?
      Kind Regards,

You know, I tried, but I forgot how to do it I tried to use the RC siding for my other project, but it was doing some strange things, so I bailed and went with the tried and true.

I still think Railclone needs some built-in things, like this, which is so common.

I think I've had similar issues when my geometry was messy, ie. from extruded splines. Did you check your geometry for any issues?

It's just an extruded spline, like you said.

OK, then try to retopologize it to make it all quads, cut here, slice there, it should work. Extruding splines usually results in large polygons with random bad topology.

Maybe your texture has a bit of noise on the edges or doesn't tile perfectly? Does 'keep continuity" seem to do anything for you?

the displacement is just a gradient.

Well, so much for that theory. Interested to see how it pans out though.

I just got an email with a kitchen cabinetry workflow in rail clone, hopefully siding and roofing is next!

Yes, I saw that. I am not sure it is in the library, is it? He is showing how to build the kitchen, but what I watched, it wasn't from a library.

Making a siding railclone takes like 5 minutes at best. I don't understand why it should be in a library but I've made one just now. I've attached it to this post (MAX 2016, centimeters). They only thing you need to do is have a clipping spline and an aligned RC. But you can do that even automatically with this script:

The cleaning corners is what I need to figure out.

Depends on how the corners are detailed, you have a lot of different ways.
