So, can you share a little more about this? Will this be simply supported through VRay, or is it an external tool?

Well, you should know, it says you have a collaboration?

I'm interpreting it as they have a special camera (or camera modifier) that generates some form of cubic or spatial image format as it needs their player to view it. Can't be a coincidence that this was mentioned together with Lytro? Maybe a miniature game engine file?

        Hi Vlado!

Any chance to be Beta tester for this?
my jaw dropped when i saw the movie and its just what we are looking for.. realtime without the need to learn unreal or unity and make special lowpoly geometrie and new shaders.
well even if its very limited at the moment its super interesting!

        best regards daniel!

Does this mean that this is fundamentally different from OTOY's approach? Because OTOY claims their lightfields can be viewed on the Gear VR (they even hacked in positional tracking via Vive's Lighthouse tech).

It is a fundamentally different approach, yes.

I don't really trust anything that Otoy claims anymore. In any case, you can talk to the Nozon guys directly - it's their technology so maybe they have plans for mobile VR devices.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

I know I barge in a bit late here but I figured better ask it here than open a new thread for it:
Is there a video available of the talk at SIGGRAPH 2016 with the Nozon guys somewhere?
              Software:
              Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
              3ds Max 2016 SP4
              V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

              Hardware:
              Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
              64GB RAM

We did not record the V-Ray Days sessions, but you can contact those guys directly for more information.

                Best regards,

Nozon has been purchased by Starbreeze (the guys who make games and also that ultra wide angle headset.):

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not.

depends if their software will require a specific headset or not, now they are vertically integrated. It is generally a bad thing for consumers when companies are.
