  • Universal work flow

I have been reading the threads about the new suggested workflow esp the one with the cheat sheet. I have done some testing on a small exterior scene that Imrecently completed using my old workflow with IRmap + LC.

I have reset by first choosing the default max scan line and now using the vray default BF + LC settings. I have been referencing the sample rate render element. I can get very good results but I will say it takes somewhere on the order of 4x longer to render versus my old settings.

    I have two questions.

    1) using bucket mode, the tool tip that appears when hovering over the max subdvs says to leave it at 100 and to then adjust the minimum shading rate or noise threshold as needed/desired. My understanding from the cheat sheet is that the only two things to be adjusted would be the max subdvs and noise threshold, NOT the min shading rate. Is the cheat sheet more inline with the new suggested workflow or the tool tip?

    2) I notice after reset that the dynamic memory limit is set at default 4000. I am thinking it would be zero but my understanding of this setting is not very comprehensive. Any advice on that would be welcome.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Yes, good catch.
We'd need to update the tooltips (which are from sp2).
The cheatsheet wins over them, when in doubt.

As for the dyn mem limit, it's the max amount of memory that will be allocated for any dynamic geometry (Hair and fur, displacements when set as such, proxies).
Over that limit, the unused geo will be unloaded to make room for new data.
Setting it to 0 instructs V-Ray to use all the available RAM, as it sees fit.
I personally set both this and the texture limit to 0, to begin with, and only put a cap if i see i'm starving for RAM at rendertime (these days, the vray log will print very detailed memory info.).
The default of 4gb is generally fine, but you may happen to go overboard (if you use loads of proxies, all visible at the same time, f.e.), and in that case raising it would help with performance.
Your file would render fine either way.
