  • Light mixer corona 1.5 .... Vray 3.5???

I know this is inappropriate but could not stop surprising.

This new feature increases exponentially artistic agility. It is certainly a tool that gives a whole new twist for this type of rendering engines.

I wonder what has happened in Vray that this is not implemented ?. Long ago I was consulted in the forum on this tool that already had Maxwell Render and if possible implement in V-Ray.

I think the answer was NO.

Now I ask again ... Is it possible? is a priority?

I think the artistic flexibility that gives this is HUGE !!
    Vray need this.

Where did you read about light mixer in corona? Searching didn't bring any results about corona 1.5 or it having light mixer.

Thanks for the link, Andres. So it is not just speculation. I must say it really is neat and very handy feature to have. I can think of many situations where this could be very useful.

Isn't this what the lightselect element and PDplayer is for?

Yea, but PDplayer would cost you additional €250 to use while corona's mixer is integrated right in the renderer.

+1. Yes please. Saw something similar years ago for Maxwell and thought that would be cool in VRay.

Yes we have LightSelect, but it would be nice to have LightSelect on steriods
                Kind Regards,

Haha I knew it! The first moment I saw the video of Corona, people would start making threads about this here. Weird because it's been in Maxwell for the past 7 years! Thearender also has it, and I can certainly see the advantages of it. Might be good if Vray also started implementing it . I could certainly use it, as I don't want to buy Corona and it's all I used when I used Maxwell years ago, so I'm kind of missing it.

Yup, there's a big difference between if something is technically possible, and if it's conveniently possible. I would have never even though of using V-Ray's light select despite knowing the feature is there, because of that entire PDplayer/compositing workflow. Where as having it at hand, during rendering, interactively, right in VFB, makes it almost completely different feature I would probably be using all the time just to experiment with looks.

Maybe if chaosgroup replaced VFB with PDPlayer... one can dream

The nice thing about the light mixer in corona, from what I get from the video, is that the bounces of each light is stored altogether... using light select doesn't allow for that, only the direct illumination of the selected light is stored and the indirect illumination is global.
I don't know the technical problems it involves (multiple light cache maybe?) but it is really useful from an artist point of view...

Believed this has been asked several times before and we will get there eventually. And hope when we get there the steroid light select takes care separation of SSS too...
If we achieve this and fast-responsive interactive render, it will be so awesome.
                              always curious...
