  • Removing interpolated reflections/refractions

    Hey guys,

As I'm looking into merging my code for glossy Fresnel in the VRayMtl material, I would very much like to remove the code for interpolated glossy reflections/refractions, as it will become very complicated to support, and I will not make it work with the glossy Fresnel option anyways. The question is, does anyone still use interpolated reflections/refractions?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I don't, but sometimes there are old models that do use them. Maybe it would be nice to have them converted/removed with the vray scene converter then.

      I don't use it. It's a +1 from me to drop it

I'm pretty sure someone will come up screaming in agony and despair about the missing interpolation . I would appreciate if these settings were removed finally - one thing less to worry about (even though we have scripts to clean up assets).

Never - historically all I heard about them was that they caused flickering issues anyway.

Yes, remove it, only take place in material and now its useless.

I hate the interpolated reflections mode. +1 to remove it.

                    Also, what's glossy fresnel?

So you missed all those PBR threads then It's a more accurate way to compute Fresnel reflections on glossy materials that makes them somewhat more realistic (or way more realistic, depending on who you ask).

Yep, +1 on removing these. Any time i tried to use them, I would just get splotches instead of noise, so it was not really any win there anyway.

                          Also never (successfully) used interpolation.
