  • DOF issue

Hi, I recently updated my copy of max to 2017 (despite many recommendations not to), in general things have been going ok, but for some reason when i turn on depth-of-field under the sampling menu in the vrayphysicalcamera the image renders completely black. I've never experienced this problem before when I was using 2015. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks

Possibly the aperture map feature is checked, but no map assigned? In the Bokeh section

I'm not using any Bokeh effect and the bitmap aperture box and blades box is unchecked

Can you post a scene that renders in this way?

        Best regards,

Sure, I attached a new basic scene I made, loaded the vray defaults and quickly adjusted a couple of settings and the same problem happened- renders fine at first but after DOF box is checked it renders black.

          Thank you!

If you insist on using the VRayPhysicalCamera in max 2017 (they have a PhysicalCamera there), you have to switch the exposure control to VRay exposure control in Environment and Effects to avoid problems.

It could be a bug though, so thanks for the pointer!
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Thank you! That was my problem. Yeah, I've been using the vrayphysicalcamera because whenever I use the max physicalcamera and select it in the scene my interface immediately freezes for a few seconds and I often would have to restart max to fix the issuse...
