Yay, already tried it. Depressing being on rank 300 with all the NASA Quantum-Computers at the top of the list :P.

I am still sceptical of the new Ryzen CPU. It does indeed look awesome, especially the price. Do you guys know anymore about that? I'm not sure how to feel about that since on the one hand I hope that this price is AMDs way of catching up and they just take the losses resulting in that price to catch up again or if there is some kind of snag about this Ryzen CPU... Maybe something like embree was back then? Limited to Intel CPUs only? At the same time I don't know if Intel simply completely overprices their processors since they basically have a monopoly :P

Going off the benchmark results the 1700X/1800X are comparable to the Intel 6900K, and a bit faster than the 5960X but for a much lower price. Those are all 8 core/16 thread processors.

Yes, and let's hope that one of the results of the Ryzen processor's continued success is bringing down the price of Intel processors!

Stock speeds though? The 5960X at stock is severely underclocked IMO and can be pushed quite easily.

Can't say for definite but there are quite a few results on the benchmark. The fastest time is 1:27, slowest is 1:47. All of the 1700X results seem to average around 1:30.

Either way, costs a lot less for similar speeds.

curiously close between the 1800x and the 1700x on the few test submitted so far!

I'd just like to point out that although I've built my 1800X as a rendernode. I wouldn't have spec'd it as a workstation, not until I/others have done further testing at least. Reasons being, and this from memory when I was doing my research so you should check, compared to an intel system there are limitations on the PCI-E bus bandwidth, less L3/L2 cache on chip, and single core performance isn't as good (intel can turbo a single core much higher if the others aren't being used).

Leeds3D, the 1800X and 1700X are exactly the same chip, they just get ranked in terms of the quality of the silicon, in theory 1800X should clock higher with more stability, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are a number of 1700X which will clock just as well as an 1800X. You'd just be gambling at the point of purchase.

                (PS Hi Max!)
