  • transparency not quite so transparent

Having a problem with these trees material opacity. Have tried using TGA files with alpha channels and separate opacity maps. I still get the same result. Actually I'm not sure if it's the material or GI object settings.

Okay, well it seems that my problem is with the reflection on the ground plane. When I turn off the reflection I don't get the strange shadowy tint. But I'd still like to know why it's happening.

I wonder if the plane is contributing to gi in some sort of gi shadow.

Which VRay version is that? What is the transparent material (a standard material or a VRay material)? How many GI/Reflection bounces do you have?

          Best regards,

            Here is the file.
            trees.zip

Note that each tree is actually two planes. Each with a separate lookat controller. One pointing at the camera and the other pointing at the light. The plane pointing at the light is invisible to camera and reflections. Also the ground plane does not use glossy relfections, there is just a noise bump map.

And further more. When I switched the trees to a VRay material the strange shadows in the trasparency went away.
