  • Adaptive lights and animation anything to pay attention to?

    Hi,
    is adaptive lights flicker free?
What kind of artifacts I'd have to expect from a too low adaptive lights amount?
German guy, sorry for my English.

Don't use the "fly-through" mode of the light cache - use single frame instead. Don't change the number of adaptive lights. Make sure that you have enough light cache subdivs - the default 1000 is usually enough but it may need to go a bit higher (2000-3000) for more complicated illumination scenarios.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

it makes phoenix sims flicker, like it cant decide which light to use to illuminate smoke.

we had a lot of small sphere lights in the area - it was one smoke sim copied 20 times with offset and rotation (tiki torches in a garden), and about 200 lightbulbs on wire suspended over parts of it. Some of them did ok, but ones with a lot of lights overhead seemed to alternate which lights it used for illumination each frame.

              Hey,

Do you remember which version of Phoenix you used for that? I fixed a couple of bugs there during the last months, but it could be another issue as well. If you were already on a build from maximum of 2-3 weeks ago, then would it be possible to send a scene over that helps repro it?

              Thanks!

Even twice I hope this is not a third manifestation of the same or a related issue, but give 3.03 or a latest nightly a try and if it's still bad, then I'll bother you for a scene.

                  Cheers!

                    Thanks!
Will be a moment before I can test, but I have a note to check that before doing any more phoenix work
