  • Controling reflections of the environment

    Hi guys,
I have several objects (materials) that reflect my background too much. I turned off the dome reflection and put my vraysky with output map in the environment refl/refr override. Then I put the same (not instanced) map in my materials that I would like to reflect less of the environment with lower output values. I put this map in their environment, and even tried using 0 but it doesn't seam to work. Also I tried vray override material with similar settings but reflection remains the same. What is the correct way?

On our side this your technique seems to work. Could you show us your results.

I think I found it. My is inside of a room and that object first sees glass and then environment. When I deleted the glass (which didn't have environment override) it worked. Maybe a bug or you want it to work that way? It's not a problem for me to add the material environment override to glass too.

If there is a chance for a bug it would be very helpful if you could send us the scene for investigation.

It's a rather large one, but it's really simple...just put like glass all around your scene...like it's all in windows. If the glass doesn't have the same environment override, the technique won't work. The reflection on the sphere will first hit the glass (that doesn't have it) and consider it for reflection not the environment behind it.

What exactly are you trying to achieve? It should be possible to override just one object's environment and reflections without the need to wrap a giant glass sphere around your scene just for that (if I've understood correctly)?

No, the glass is preventing this from working if it doesn't have the same override in it. There are usually windows in all of my scenes, so it doesn't work for materials and objects that have override and their reflection "goes" through the window first (the glass material). I meant for you to add it so you can reproduce the "bug".

                  Hi,
we're still looking in to this. For now as a workaround you could try attaching the same VRaySky map that you have attached to the environment slot of the reflective materials to the environment slot of the glass material of the object that is making the issues.

Yes but that brings me back to square on since all my materials are affected by that glass (since they are indoors) and all will have the same reflection.

That is only a workaround we're working on the problem and will update the thread when we have a solution.
