  • Help with textures...

I seem to have this reaccuring pesky problem of crawling/shimmering textures. It's driving me nuts! I'm in the middle of a project, will be for a while so please don't ask me to switch to vers 1.46. I will eventually, but for now I'm using 1.09.03r. Here is a small animation showing my problem:

As you can see the wall texture is crawling, and only the wall. I have the AA numbers cranked up, here are my settings:

I am using a precalculated irradience map, created using the same settings in my GI rollout.

The texture itself is nothing but a simple .tif rgb file, no alpha's or anything.

I have also tried different antialiasing filters with the same results.

I would love to hear from all you experts out there, I really need to resolve this problem.

    Thanks in advance

im definatly no expert but id be trying:

use medium animation preset for GI

maybee lower interp samples? could be interpreting slightly different for each frame?

render with video AA filter (blurry but may work) or mitchel natravelli (i think thats the one) as the edge enhancing effects of catmull rom may be kicking in on the texture. Maybee change the AA threshold to 0.1 as well

oh another thing someone else mentioned was cropping your texture slightly

    nice work though

please anyone, correct my points if wrong.

      Paulison-

Thanks for the reply. I don't think the GI settings would make a difference. All textures but this one are fine. I have tried area, video and catmull rom filters and all have the same problem, which leads me to believe that that is not the issue.

The cropping issue was to get rid of the black line and changing my AA threshold to .1 would only decrease the quality of the render.

Could it possibly be flickering because I am streching it and repeating it so many times?????????????????????

      Thank you anyways

I do not think its GI, try changing the texture and see if it still
flickers, if not then its an anti-aliasing issue. Happens a lot when
you have misniscule details trying to fit in a pixel line...

I can only suggest blurring it a bit, same goes for the bump if you
        use one...

Try to change the bitmap filtering from "pyramidal" to "summed area" or "none". I am not sure if this would help, but give it a try..

Lowering the treshold will actually increase AA quality, so I would try it (0.1 or even 0.05)

But I believe the most important thing will be the randomize option. Try with this unchecked. Probabely you need to up the AA to 1/3 to get nice vertical/horizontal lines.

Have you tried simple two level AA? Maybe this could help too, and it may even render faster.
