  • Lightmap anim

    Hi Everyone

    Got a Question...

When doing an animation with moving objects using lightmaps for secondary and maybe primary if am lazy, do you set it up to use Fly-through mode, render every frame and then save it? do you also set scale to world or screen i seem to remember some say it may be best to set it to world. Also has any body done an animation with moving objects within the scene in conjuction with lightmaps? i would appreciate any thoughts on the topic. Thanks in advance

ps i also have objects with visibility keys fading in and out ( am so lazy i want to do it all in one render pass) heh heh

i tried to use lightmap for animation and the result was slow and ugly.
    use qmc for secondary.

you have to do all the fading stuff in post.
an animated visibility track causes the rendertime to explode.
its faster to render the animation twice and crossfade them.
    Reflect, repent and reboot.
    Order shall return.

Thanks Tammo, i agree. I have started to calculated the irradiance map, the sequences are broken down into several 500 frame segments and am going to test to see if i can getaway with calculating every 5th with the objects moving if not then it will have to be the old fashioned way render and calculated every frame at render time. Going to to use QMC for my secondary. Thank you for your response.

        Hi,

Galactus I was wondering what your experience was since your last post? and what recommendations you could make for rendering multiple bounces for dynamic animations?

        Thanks

if your having animated object then you have to use single frame animaiton you cant use saved lighting situations either with irradiance maps or with lightmaps. there are a number of posts floating around the forum and possibly you might find stuff at www.vray.info . one of our resident pros at using vray for animations with animated objects is richard rosenman. you might want to check his site at www.richardrosenman.com since he often does "making of" sections on projects he has worked on.
