  • vray proxies

    Hi all
we just moved into the new build and its great, its faster , dr is working better and faster, lightmap is cool
we are going to make an animation for a neighborhood , is there anyway we could use the proxy for duplicating the buildings?
i've export one building into a vray mesh and when i brought it back to the scene it came up with no metirials on...
do i have to attach the geomtry in order to use one material for one building(multy sub) or is there another way around and still keep the original building as a group?

The best way to go about it is to have it as one object. In other words, go into subobject mode and attach everything. Then youll have one big object with one big multi-subobject material.

You could of course export all the different items per material, but good luck getting them all back together after import.

Ok thats what i thought i should do
what are the adv of using vray proxies insted of instances of the buildings?
beside that it is easier to handle on the viewport

hmm... Im not sure there is an added benefit beyond screen performance and initial memory load.

I think there may be an advantage in render time, as Im working on something similar building a community with 52 houses in it. All of which are vray proxies and its rendering real fast at the moment with test renders.

I havnt done any test renders with and without the vray proxies, I had tried to place the houses as normal but got about 18 houses in the scene and it was totally unmanageable so I deleted them and placed the vray proxy files. I will post my results later in the week as I have to have the scene ready to render by the end of the week.

Ok dave i'm looking foreward for your findings..
You can always use display as boxes on the buildings..

Even with using bounding boxes on the regualr meshes it was still quite slow, thus I went to using the v-ray proxies
