:: Nice one guys... so you hear something you don't like and then keep the guy from talking...

I was only stating the fact that this is a basic mistake... if you are so proud of your ability don't hide behind the fact that it is a beta version but assume that such elementary mistakes are a laugh....

you can shut me up but you know i am right! ::

We hardly ever lock any topics, do we?

We did not delete it, did we? So we did not shut anyone up, did we?

There is a big chance it may become an endless and pretty ugly and useless conversation.

We got your point, we admit the mistakes, we did what we could - produced a patch in a couple of hours as we got the reports - on Jan 1st.

      Lets roll on.

I think this must be why splutterfish created a closed private forum.

I think part of the problem is new users seeing the great renders and what not in the forum, getting the software and finding there are bugs in it. Then without knowing what the support and people are like at Chaos go straight to ranting. Or they expect Chaos to be avaliable to them 24/7 to fix the isues that they personally are having with the software instantly.

As far as the posts in the forum I have been here since day 1 and watched it grow over the past couple years and as Peter said I think Ive seen maby 3 threads locked down in that time and thats usually to prevent an all out flame war. Have a look at the forums at Cebas, Discreet, insert Co. name here..... most forums like those wont even let you MENTION a competitors name in the forum where in here I have seen long posts calmly discussing different engines in a professional matter without the threads being deleted or edited.

Finally YES I do preach alot about the support, software and most important the people at Chaos for the only reason in my 10+ years in this business I have never seen a software company provide the support and dedication to its customers as Chaos has. Yes I agree that the January 2005 bug was horrifying but as someone said earlier how many companies do you know will produce a patch like that in a matter of a couple hours on a HOLIDAY?

I also use the latest versions in my production pipeline and I know the risks invloved but I also know a good part of the software and there have been a few instances (no pun intended there) in the past where I have run in to a major issue that haults my project and on a couple occasions got a patch from the guys/gals at chaos within a matter of a couple hours. Or there have been many people kind enough in this forum to take the time out of their busy day to help me when I run in to a problem I can not solve.

anyway im more than happy with my investment in the Chaosgroup...,

:: guys I was NOT trying to question your support and commitment!
All I made was a comment about what looks like a basic mistake. I accept your response was very quick and helpful, and I accept that my comment was provocative to a degree. What I find strange is the defensive responses putting forward arguments about the fact that since this is a beta version we should just accept it and shut up. Well people using these beta version did not got it for free [in the right sense of the word] and all these people depend on this software to make a living, so forgive me if they have some expectations about it. If you find that the stress this problem caused to some of your costumers is an acceptable fact, then I take it all back.

I still don’t believe locking threads every time someone says something you disagree with, is the right way to get constructive responses from users.

              Happy 2005

X-Site - do you really think you were the reason the thread was locked? what you said is softer than many threads that have not been locked, just that the thread had a good chance of getting ugly...

Do you really believe the mistake was so elementary? Personaly I believe that the algorithm that creates the license key just did't work on january for some reason, and not an obvious one, I would guess.

C'mon there is hardly a more free board in the whole industry, especcialy show me a renderer's forum where less threads have been locked...

The fact is that the 1.46 series is a Beta and in plan type it is stated that "V-Ray beta builds (please note that we do not recommend using beta versions for production work)" Sure many of us still do but with that we must and do assume the responsibility of what may go wrong, lucky for us the Chaos team is there quickly to remedy the problems, but the fact is that we are warned that there might be issues...

I don't think any of the Chaos Group team put the blame on the "beta-version". Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't like many of the posts but never locked any of those so please don't talk in general regarding us locking any threads every time we find it distrurbing.

We locked this one for a very good reason and I explained that before.

As I said before - we do agree with most of what you said.

                    Lets just leave it.

Happy 2005 and again - accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

                        well..

I have got nothing to do with this thread, but i felt i must say something..

I have been in this forum for some time now, and i must say , i never saw a thread being locked before, and i must add, that the people in this forum in general and the chaos gorup people in particular are VERY helpful and kind..
In all the forums i have been on the web, varying from photography to vfx to graphics and yes, also other rendering motors, this forum here is where i found the real helping hand and professional know how.
                        always kind and always fast.
So i just felt it is unjust saying some things about the people here ..
