hi, just want to pick your brains, this is for baking for unity.
i know we have vrayedgestex but that displays all visible mesh edges while vraytoon ignores most of these to produce a cleaner line drawing.(hide edges doesn`t remove them presumably because they are visible). i realise it`s not always going to work 100%, on curved surfaces etc. the outline would depend on the viewing angle but sharp angled objects would work i think. i`ve tried quadrifying objects and that works to a point to remove the extra triangles but no mesh is perfect and vraytoon just seems to overcome this issue. could vraytoon work this way as a material ?
    thanks

VRayEdgesTex does kinda work if you convert the object to EditableMesh and set the edges that shouldn't be rendered to invisible. It's not the best, but until VRayToon can be rendered as a map (which I doubt, since it "expands" the silhouette of an object) it's a way.

      hi,
thanks for the suggestion but that`s just a small part of the model, it would take forever selecting all the edges i think, not sure if you could automate it? anyway i found a pretty good solution using a vraycurvature map and inverting it via output map. works very much like vraytoon and allows for baking. the only downside so far is where there are coplanar faces you get black polys but i can edit those out if there aren`t too many.
      thanks

Unfortunately I don't know how something like this can be implemented with the toon. Even if the toon was a material effect, it would still depend on having a camera to draw the lines - how that's going to work with texture baking, I have no idea.

        Best regards,

          hi vlado,
no problem, it was just one of those wishlist dreams i had. the vraycurvature map is producing 90-95% of the look i want anyway so i`m ok with that, needs a fair size map though for detail. it`ll probably still have an issue with curved surfaces but maybe i can do that with a unity outline shader or something.
