  • Convert Corona to Vray

I have received a .max file that has all Corona materials and lights. What would be the best way for me to convert this to use with vray? I do not have Corona. Thanks for any help

The V-Ray right mouse click converter will work. Also, I have the universal material converter script, but I have not had to use it since V-Ray 3.6.

I am trying that but it doesn?t seem to,do anything. It converts the blank material slots in the mat ed to vray but doesn?t seem to have any affect on the model material, Is it best to open the scene and assign vray as render and the domthe scene converter? Or is it best to just run the scene converter on the file ?as is? on first opening?

Make sure you don't tick that last box.

yes I had not ticked that. This file is very odd. done by others unknown to me. When I open it I get the message showing all the missing Corona dll. When I run the vray scene convert it just will not change those materials that are assigned to the various parts of the model. It does change the empty material slots in the mat editor to vray materials. It alos leaves a whole bunch of those orange place holder boxes in place of a bunch of interior lights.

Right now I can't do much with it because I can't start max 2018 due to Adesk worldwide mega problem. See my post in take5

You need Corona installed for it to work.

I did not realizen that. I don?t think that is mentioned in the docs? Does it cost $ to install Corona for this purpose?

It doesn't have to be licensed, but it needs to be installed.

Ok and thanks. I?m not sure I want to install it but maybe it would be no harm. I will be re doing all the materials and replacing all the texture maps, even if I do get the corona stuff converted to vray. Given that I may jnot bother converting since no big time saving benefit

Just adding to this, I have used the right click vray scene converter on a corona scene, but the bitmap nodes have been left as CoronaBitmaps?
Will V-ray render these as it would a native 3ds Max bitmap node, or are there downsides to this?

                    It *seems* to work fine

I usually use corona converter to convert these corona Bitmaps to standerd bitmap before using Vray converter..I hope the future update remove the need for this additional step .

It would be nice if Corona materials and lights would render in Vray, and Vray materials and lights would render in Corona.

I need this too...don't know how Corona licensing work. Can I install some trial indefinitely and only use it to convert Corona scenes, and never to render?
