  • glass with air bubbles in 1.46.12 - how?

I am trying to create air bubbles in glass (latest beta) but the only way to make it look physically correct is to make a boolean.

I tried to assign air material to the bubble or invert normals or applied inverted idex of refraction, but it all doesn't work.

    Any thoughts?

did you try just attaching the meshes?

well that image just has several little spheres inside a larger one. the larger one has default IOR of the vraymatl refraction. The smaller ones have IOR of 1.0 i think. made the scene at work so dont have access to it.

Here is a clear example of glass with an air bubble inside at the left and a single shape (tiny hole at the bottom to be able to connect the spheres to make sure it is a single solid) at the right.

The black refractions from the environment are almost completely missing in the left part.

Gijs: have you tried just attaching the mesh of the bubble and flipping its normals?

At least that seemed to work in the older versions:

Sorry Eric / Tolgeir, I forgot about attaching the mesh option. That seems to work BUT: What I was trying to achieve is making bubbles with a particle system, so that would mean I have to use mesher to convert the system to a mesh first.

I don't know if this a bug of a limitation, but it would be more intuitive if we could just apply a air material to a mesh and vray takes care of the rest. Vlado, is this possible?

Just use an inverted sphere as your instance for the particles.

O.K., but I still would need to covert the particles to a mesh, is that correct?

no. you can still have them as particles. Animate them if you feel like it
