  • New Betas - suggestion

    Hi,

Could I suggest that for new release Beta's a sticky with list of know issues to watch out for when rendering (as people discovour them) is made along with some ideas of how to solve them. I think this will reduce the number of repeated threads on the same issues. This isnt a "bug" list, but more of a list of things people should watch out for that can be expanded on as people discover more.

    For example:

Fog colour value bug - make sure the RGB colour values are all less than 255 - can result in blotching

change in fog - more accurate now, so make sure you adjust old mats

using certain colour mapping with a dark multiplier over 1 may cause areas that should be white to turn black (not sure of the techincal side of this)

I know theres a few other issues with the latest beta that have workarounds posted in the forum but its kind of hard to remember it all

I havnt moved to the latest beta yet, but I'd definatly make use of this kind of list...rather than relying on a bunch of scribbles on scrap paper

Yeahhhh.... but what about a general warning not to use the latest version at all? For instance: in 4 days I have not been able to find a solution for light areas lit with only VRay Light render as pure black instead..... It's a real disaster. A fix was promised to be downloadable last Monday but nothing happened. Total silence and only the latest beta available for download.

        Quote from Vlado:

"If you want to download an older beta, go to the downloads section on the site, copy the link for the current version, paste it in the browser address field and replace the string 14612 with 14610.

Other than that, the blotches problem is already solved and will be fixed for the next build, hopefully there won't be any more problems with the VRayMtl fog and refraction then.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Thanks 'chicoone', though I don't need the .10 build since I kept it anyway. From time to time I switch to the .12 build to see if I can find ways or ideas to locate certain problems, or if more problems pop up.
On Monday I received this: "...Everything is fixed and will be included in the new build coming later today. Thank you for this report!....". as a reaction to the VRay Light problem. I did not happen so I suppose there is a good reason for it. But why not then post a sticky with a general message about the matter? Like: certain problems arose using the latest beta-build; we're working like mad to provide a new version, so please sit tight for a few more days.

This should be understood, until it is called 1.5

that vray light black issue has been resolved in 1.46.13 though unless your still getting that problem

In my earlier posts I put : everything is fixed and will be available today, which then does not come, versus a general message that a fix is in the making and will be available a.s.a.p. (Mind you: the people behind the product are excellent examples of how client communication should be handled. It was only in this specific case....)
I installed the .13 today and noticed that the problems had disappeared. I noticed a new one, but I will first investigate whether it's the settings or coplanar issues.
