  • DR Black Buckets

My DR is still rendering black buckets from the servers - Anyone ever figure out why Vray does this? I am running the latest 1.46.13 - It sees the server and the ip shows up for the bucket but it renders black on just a default material - Thanks

Are you lighting with a saved imap? Sounds like the slaves do not have proper access to the maps. Have you tried using UNC paths to load you maps?

First, check to see if in your 'my computer' that it doesnt show the network drives as disconnected. I've had a couple computers that like to do that (for no apparent reason whatsoever) when I boot them up. Also, have you mapped to the UNC bitmap paths within Max?

I have a vray light in the scene - turned off - I am not reusing an irmap and there are no materials on any of the objects - unc is setup even though there are no maps in the scene - Any other ideas - DR sees the server - but the file doesnt seem to make it to the network directory on the server machine - Does this make any sense?

Thanks for the wuick replies -

My DR sees the other machines as well within the machine I am working on - however on Windows, the servers (especially Win XP) doesn't always see the main computer's mapped network drive. The main comp shows up on them as disconnected. When this happens I'll get dark buckets because the servers cannot find shared textures. There's a free proggie out there (I'll have to find it again) which keeps your network drives alive. Since there are no maps - it apparently rules out the UNC as the source of your problem.

I think Da_elf is onto something - what's lighting your scene? Also, perhaps these steps help - does your licensing points to the proper machine? Try rendering without Antivirus and Firewalls on - see if that also resolves your problem.

I should also mention I am getting a file with 0kb in the network dir and then it is removed after render - Just tried rendering to my 2000 laptop and it gave black buckets as well -
                Thanks

Have you tried removing/reinstalling all traces of Vray?

okay removed and reinstalled and same thing - black buckets - The viz log on the server machine reads - file open failed: D:Autodesk VIZ 2005\networkvray_server_scene.max

Ah - you're on Viz... I shouldn't assume everyone is a Max user here. Did you check out this thread? I'm not sure if it's still relevant:

Are you using quasi-monte carlo for secondary bounce or lightmap?

I am not on 13 still on 10 but it did that for us when we had xrefs scenes when everything is mergred into one file it fixed the black buckets for us. Hope that helps
