  • Vray normal map broken

    Im getting really unusual results when using vraynormal map. Its seems like it can't deal with chamfers or something. I get the same result when using vray next gpu or cpu (using max 201.

    First image below is a normal map going straight into the bump slot. Results are as expected.

    Second image is the same normal map going through the vraynormal map and then into the bump slot. Vray normal map parameters at default.

    Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Anyone else getting this issue?

      If you're working in LWF (gamma 2.2) :

      Check "Override gamma : 1.0" in the bitmap loader of the map

      If it's loaded in 2.2, you might have 0-127 value in the blue channel, leading to artifacts (blue channel cannot leave 128-255 range)

        Hi Guys, yep its the bitmap loader settings... if set to override gamma 1.0 if works as expected.

        When loading normal, bump, displacement, specular, glossy maps it seems the same rule applies. This info often gets overlooked I think.

          When loading normal maps, always as gamma 1.0. And normal maps from lots of sites these days need to flip green channel.
