  • Building light cache

What causes the light cache to get stuck? Everything was moving fine and I removed everything that might have caused it, however, things still get stuck.

Hmmm... I'm having light cache problems today as well. Coincidence? If I hit cancel or stop it just keeps counting up and won't close.

hmm. I converted all bitmap nodes to vray HDRI (there is a script included in vray to do this). Now things are running a little better (at least light cache was able to finnish). The reason I tried this is because I've been having some weird issues with bitmaps earlier today.

Yep so I have been killing MAX every time I try something to fix it that doesn't work. I tried BF+BF and the rendering just stuck at a black screen.

I converted the scene a few times, which did nothing. I'll try converting to hdri.

Did it help? My rendering finished without any further hickups, but I'm not sure if converting to vray-HDRI maps did the trick, or if it was because of lowering the number of hairs on a few hair and fur objects. My machines has a ton of ram though, so I don't think it was running out of memory (less than half was used)

No, not your fault. I tried converting again, it worked and I hit render, at which time it crashed again. The frustrating as heck part is this is the third house, which is using the exact same assets as the first two. The first two rendered fine, but I have spent the last 4 hours trying to render this one out.

Things are going from bad to worse. Now if I open the model it crashes.

Solved. Raytrace material that the UMC took care of.

Bobby, couldn't help noticing on your screen grab above that it looks as if you're modeling your siding as opposed to using Vray displacement. Are you using a plugin or doing this by hand?

That was an old project that they changed a few things. The siding was done with Railclone, however, I had to do it all over because Railclone changed something since I built that model; all the siding failed when I opened the old scene.

Interesting, I did a couple of board and batten sidings with Railclone but the process was tedious, or I didn't do it properly. It looked noticeably better than using displacement though.

Yes, it is tedious and sometimes finicky.
