I am not sure I'll replace the drive. I'll probably just replace with a more modern computer. I got this one several years ago and it was already a couple years old. It is a beast and it has served me well, but newer technology might be the way to go.

its a right mind set. i just built i9 7890xe. Its about twice as fast as my dual xeon (also a few years old) but cost almost half. I'm sure if you get something like threadripper 2, it won't disappoint.Dmitry Vinnik

There should be list sheet for all the parts to build the best machine. Let's say you'll need, let's say $4000, to build what you'll need and here is the sheet list. I can bring that sheet to my local computer guy and I would pay him to build it for me. Searching this stuff makes my brain numb. If you ask ten people you get ten different opinions.

I wouldn't buy dell tho. They are overpriced as any other big name brand. It does take a bit of work to build a system, to research it etc. I would suggest land on a cpu you want and rest can be done by your local shop.Dmitry Vinnik

The warranty on the Dell has been great. They replaced the MB twice, and some RAM at no cost to me. I think I have another year on it.Bobby Parker

I usually get one that's best in class (its expensive) but it should perform well in next 3-5 years so that price averages out very well. Today, I'd say i9 7890xe and ryzen2 are the top cpus without breaking the bank. I'm an intel fan, so would stay with it for a while, just don't trust amdDmitry Vinnik

The new AMD 2990wx is only 10-15% faster than your setup and with big scenes your setup will be better because of how memory works with this specific AMD CPU
In my humble view, you haven't missed much of the new tech at all. your setup is still better than what 99% of people have now. And considering the amount of money you paid for these specs, it should last you 4-5 more years without issues.
Look into a good M.2 NVMe drive via PCIe like the Samsung 970 Pro
It is at least 7 times faster than your current Sata SSD.. Max will start 5 times faster than what is in the video with one of these drives

I think you should be fine with either Intel or AMD. The Ryzen CPUs are nothing like the failure that was the Bulldozer architecture. In fact, we're so satisfied with them that we're most likely upgrading to the 32 (64?) core 7nm Threadrippers next year. I'm yet to find any issues with this CPU. Seriously, it's that good and costs PEANUTS at the moment. It's kind of nuts to think that today you can get a 16-core CPU like 1950X for $/€ 600. This is coming from a person that swore by and used Intel machines for 15 years up until I got my 1950X rig last year. I'm neither an Intel nor AMD fan. I'm a fan of CPUs that deliver great performance without breaking the bank.
