  • MultiTile UDIM & VrayHDRI for vrscene

    Hello,

I'm trying to render a fully textured character (with substance painter) for testing the limits of the vrscene exporter.

Looks like we have a limitation with the multiTile map operator.
Here's how we use it :

We'd like to use VrayHDRI instead of bitmap to import texture. ( for tiledEXR)
We also use MultiTile in custom mode (because in UDIM mode, with <UDIM> tag in filename, the render works but the asset tracking lost the file, so it's a real mess when talking to real production & network render)

Here it's not suppose to work, but i does The local render (and network on local renderfarm) is fine.
But when i'm trying to export a vrscene (or a preview in the submit to vray cloud) and i lost all of my maps (udims everywhere)

Do you have any recommended workflow for massive UDIM charracters usable in vrscene ?

    Thanks !

    Hello,
i've made a simple scene to try to find where is the problème.
    UDIM_MultiTile_vray.zip (3dsmax 2019)

And it looks like it's the custom fil pattern that is not supported by vray

Yes, and there is warning about this in both - the log and the Cloud submitter.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Yes, but is there's a hope that this will be supported one day ? or should i search for a workaround

Maybe, but that won't be anytime soon.

For the moment the best way to do UDIM textures is through VRayHDRI with the <UDIM> tag.

            Best regards,

Try 3dsMax 2020 OSL bitmap lookup.
