  • HELP Crash animation prepass on Range or Frames time output

    Urgent
    Max 2020.1
    VRay 3.70.1
I am trying to do some animations and I have a lot of problems. I am using the IR prepass + LC method.
The first problem was that the animation started at frame -5 ... whenever I put in camrea path (IR or LC) everything went black ... after seeing here a post with a similar problem (VMAX-8901) I put the animation starting at 0 and already doing the IR and LC. But only works if Time Output is in single frame Active Time Segment ... In Range and Frames, Max always crash .. Max 2020.1 VRay 3.70.1. I also tested it on Max 2019 and always crash ... Having to do a lot of animation just with Active Time Segment is almost impossible.

After some more testing, and doing animation with Active Time Output, when I render with Animation (rendering) it only works if Time Outpu is in Active Time Segment ... all other modes Max crash.
In the meantime I've been testing another file and everything works as it should be ...
So it must be something in the file... Who can I send the file for debugging?

    Thx in advance

      Update

I already found out what is crashing .. some objects that were animated.
These objects, some plants and a tree, had applied FFD (box) 3x3x3, FFFDSelect and a Linked XForm to a Dummy that was animated. I deleted all modifiers and already renders as it should. Then I tried with a simple animated Bend and crash again .. but only in Range (as long as it doesn't start at 0) and frames ... Very Weird
I tested it on another file, a siples box with an animated Bend and crash again ... thoughts?

          Hello,

          Sorry for the delayed reply.
I tried to reproduce the crash but no luck so far. Can you attach the simple animated bend scene you mention here ? Also when you get a crash Max should create a crash dump called 3dsmax_minidump.dmp located in your temp folder (type %temp% in the windows explorer address bar) - attach the crash dump too.
Or if it is more convenient - you can send all to support@chaosgroup.com

          Best regards,
          Yavor

            Hi Yavor,

I sending files with the two different problems on Prepass Animation...

File A - Crash when set to Range or Frames. If in Range is set to star at frame 0, don't crash... If in frames we put 0, don't crash... i think if no frame 0 it crash... no problem with Active Time (have frame 0)

File B - If start time animation is set to negative (like advised), the irradiance solution and light cache render black...

            Win 7 Pro SP1
            Max 2020.1
            VRay 3.70.1

            Thx in advance..

Thanks for the scene. We managed to reproduce the issue here with V-Ray 3.7. The issue itself is fixed in V-Ray Next but it should be possible to pick the fix in 3.7 too. I'll write back tomorrow with some more info if we managed to get the fix.
              Sorry for the inconvenience.

The stable nightly for 3.7 now contains the fix and should no longer crash. Build name is vray_adv_37001_max2020_x64_29379.

You are right - forgot to mention that I'm talking about the crash only.
