  • Transparent Objects

    Hey guys,

So to explain my issue in a simple way, I have 2 objects, 1 is visible from frames 1-100, and the other from 90-200, basically when because transparent while the other shows up, kind of faking a fade effect here.

If I am to use the standard 3d max materials and animate the opacity of the material, and render, it works perfect, but when i use vray materials and animate the refraction to max, and the reflection to 0, to make the objects disappear, it also works but when i render it picks it up in the alpha channel + any other render elements such as the AO.

Any idea how I should approach this, or if animating the refraction is the right way to do this?

    Thanks guys!

    Hi mossawi
Why not animate the opacity ? Or the visibility parameter ?

Would you do that just through the opacity map? which is the visibility parameter?

The visibility parameter is in the object properties dialog :

visibility does work but for some reason it is very very slow to render done this way.

Ah is it so. Maybe the visibility setting is not properly supported by V-Ray ? Someone more knowledgeable could answer that...
I personally don't render these effects. If an object is going to fade or be transparent I'll render it separately so I have full control over the effect in post. Quicker and no need to render again with each tweak. Is this doable with your project ?

Visibility sucks. Try this method which works mostly just fine
