  • Vray 5 Light Caching Slow

Ok, for my second problem, recently upgraded to Vray 5 on Max 2020 and I opened one of the scenes I made recently to test. It's a bunch of Tyflow fractures flying past a product. When I click render it enters into the light cache stage and the counter goes all the way up to over 596 hours estimated time. I've added a picture of the render dialogue.

It's using all Vraymtl materials, GI is brute force and Light cache is set to 3000 subdivs, bucket sampling is Min = 1, max = 8. Has a single VRayLight in the scene.

Rendered without issue before but now it sticks at the light cache till it crashes.

Support would love the max dump, and ideally a file.

Sure thing. I'll Wetransfer it over. --UPDATE-- ok the 3dmax dump file is 20gb in size so wetransfer is not an option. I'll see if I can still send the file across to Support and find another way for he dump file.

        Wow, it dumped 20gb?
I meant the minidump, which is usually a few MBs (like 5).
It's indeed best if you talk to them, they may provide you with an FTP address or analogous.

Yeah it doesn't crash in the normal sense, it just sort of hangs forever so I created a dump file using task manager and it dropped a 19.7gb dump file instead of the minidump. Can't seem to find a way of making a minidump without the crash dialogue coming up. I can zip up the file and it's assets though so they can play around with it.

              Here, process explorer.
It'll allow for minidumps to be created without the app crashing.

p.s.:Thanks to matanov for the refresher!

Much better! Right I will send that over to Support. It's definitely having issues with Tyflow. If I hide the vornoi particles, it renders the product fine but it just can't handle all the fragments flying around.

Ah ha! Problem solved. The version of Tyflow I had was designed for Vray Next. Updated it to the latest version and it's all working as it should now. Lesson learned everyone, keep your stuff updated!
