  • PNG or Tiff transparency

    Hello,

I have a single image with an alpha channel.
How can texture a plane and associate that png to a shader without having to split the alpha channel?
So when I render the alpha will be transparency and not black

Attach is the image I'm using.

    Thanks
    C

It'll work if you use the same image in the opacity slot

Yes, indeed. i meant the Alpha was read correctly off PNGs, it was one short of posting a proper setup for cutout opacity.

lol yeah I was responding to the OP Lele....you just beat me to it so it looked like I was responding to you

EDIT: In the interest of actually very funny complete disclosure; I never realised until today, when I did this, that it was possible.
For literally ever since I've been using Max - which is since early DOS - I have been creating a mask for opacity from the original png....just got used to doing it.
No idea how I missed it...just one of those things LOL

                Hi there,

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention this is happening in Maya 2020.2

In maya a simple Lambert shader when connecting this image automatically reads the alpha.

                Thanks

yeah you need to manually connect the alpha to each of the r g b channels of the opacity

                    Thanks!!!

The issue. I was dragging the image directly to the opacity.
After did the RGB channels work fine on the render

On the Maya display, port views the image did not reflect it has alpha.

                    Attach is a reference image.
