  • Vray 5 hf2 NVIDIA AI denoiser boosting brightness of matte shadow

I'm having some trouble with rendering with alpha + matte shadow, with the nvidia AI denoiser. it seems to double the brightness of the alpha while introducing a lot of artifacting. The issue goes away with the default vray denoiser. I thought it was worth mentioning as I have not seen it posted or talked about anywhere, and I'm pretty confident this is an issue with the denoiser.

I'm using a dome light with vraysky in it, for gi and refl/refr however using no dome, and only the environment slot, nets similar results. always a boost in brightness on render end, when nvidia AI denoiser is on.

    cheers.

Thanks for the report. I've reproduced the issue and logged it (internal bug-tracker id: VMAX-10637) for developer investigation. For now, as a workaround, use the V-Ray denoiser instead.
