  • Vray light black behind the glass

This seems like an obvious one but I can't find an option or a solution anywhere. I have visible lights on the ceiling as LED lights and behind the glass they are black. How do I make them visible and also affect glow with vrays lens effect?
    Thanks!

If you post a little scene I can check it for you before I start work
It works fine for me in a quick test.

Here's the scene. Glass has max depth 10 and affect all channels under refraction.

I meant to post a cut down part of the max scene
It looks wrong yes, but I can't recreate that - everything works as expected.
It's hard to say without knowing about the materials, light settings etc., so maybe
just isolate the relevant bits to see if it then works, as well as merging those parts
into a clean scene to check it still happens.

I tried in an empty scene and it works ok. This is an imported model but I just tried creating a new box model and apply a new simple material with white reflection and refraction, black diffuse, and still I can't see the light behind. No idea what setting can be turned on in this scene so that it doesn't work. Is there such an option even? I don't touch settings, everything's pretty much default.

If it works in an empty, new scene with Vray, then switch to scanline and back again in you main scene and it may fix it.
Imported models very very often do the strangest things and sometimes it's a chore to track down what exactly has occurred

Tried scanline/vray back again and that didn't help. So I tried ticking and changing almost everything and finally found the culprit. Directional wasn't the default 0.0 but rather 0.6! So that caused the light under that angle to be invisible through the glass. Is that a bug?

                Glad you found it

Sure looks like a bug to me.

Here is a post about this https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...ugh-refraction

Apparently it was being looked at....but that was 3 years ago so.....

Oh I see...should I report it again? I mean I get what they are saying but then this behavior should be in front as well as behind the glass...also there should be a toggle for it or something.

You mean the same light, if you remove the glass pane, returns visible?
If that is the case, please send the scene to support.
Otherwise, Blago expressed an intent, but the solution he was wishing for was never found.
You should maybe explore using two light fixtures, or a light and a lightMtl with a wrapper, so that it's only visible to camera without affecting lighting.

Yeah, the light object is the same, and is normally visible in front but black behind the light. It only happens with non 0 directional setting. I'll send the scene to support.
                      Thanks

If it was that easy, it would have already been done
