  • Isolate Selection

First, I so hate the box... what the heck is it for. If I have something isolated, it is for a reason. Second, it isn't getting past this white box. MAX crashed to the desktop, not surprising, but I open up to this, so I have to crash out of MAX (waited an hour twice). I merge everything into a new scene without an issue, hit render, and back to this. I rendered the front camera, and the only thing I did was switch to the back camera. Any clues, other than breaking the scene down until it doesn't crash anymore?

How do you even trigger that box? I can't remember ever having seen it.
I have isolate/end isolate on a quad for ease, so you could try that to see if it helps...

EDIT: Oh I see; it is the pop-up on opening a file that has something isolated. It seems with yours it is not displaying the text or the 'OK' button which clears it.
Weird...some conflict or other. Try it with a new scene...make something, isolate it, save it and reopen it to see if it either triggers the popup or crashes...should indicate something.

It happens on every MAX file I open, and I asked on the AD forum a few times a long time ago, but got no real answer. I left MAX open all night and that box was still there, so I had to kill MAX.

Have you tried selecting the popup box and just hitting 'enter'? Even though it's not showing it may still accept the command...

Try this very simple file and see if it does the same https://www.dropbox.com/s/urv02fb2tk...ATION.max?dl=0
It's just 3 teapots with one isolated and saved like that, so it should trigger that popup as in this grab

Weird, there should be one exactly as in my screen grab. So what happens when you open it...it displays just one teapot or 3?

Progress then...of sorts....did it allow you to 'ok' it..and there was text visible?

EDIT: Not quite sure what you were showing in the screencast but at least it solved it

The problem has been found! It is a V-Ray displacement!

I removed the shift number in the displacement and the crashing stopped. I can't get that 1/2 day back, but I should meet my deadline this afternoon.
