  • V-Ray 6 does not let overwrite .vrmesh proxy files

    Since V-Ray 6 I can't update my proxies by just overwriting them. I'm using 3ds Max 2023.
When 3ds Max is open I can't overwrite the existing proxies which were in use since 3ds Max was launched. I have to close 3ds Max entirely and delete the .vrmesh file, then open up again, and export the proxy. (Simply by keeping 3ds Max open and closing the scene file does not help.)
This makes a bit hard to develop a proxy asset.

This issue was not present in earlier versions, I could simply overwrite the files, and I could update my proxy assets in an opened scene.
    Is this an intentional change?

Thanks in advance for the answer!

    Best Regards,
    Gabor

Hi I tested with 3ds max 2023/vra6 and 3ds max/vray5 and indeed they behave differently. let me check what is going on and I will get back to the thread.

This is what I did in 3ds max 2023/vray 6.

Created a proxy in the scene, then imported the model back as mesh, edited it and tried to export it again to the same vrmesh file. I got this error message:

      Are you experiencing the same?

        Hello Vladimir,

        Thanks for looking into it.

Yes, exactly. (First I didn't get the error message, because I was exporting by maxscript in silent mode). But now I tried from scratch simply by using the "VRay mesh export" UI and the same error message popped up.

I notieced one more thing: the problem does not occur until you save the scene in a max file (so you see Untitled in the 3ds max header).
