  • Environment background & reflections

I think this problem has always existed, but I don't know if it is a Vray thing or what. As you can see in this not so great image, the image I have set to the environment background does not render correctly at all. Not only does it not render in blurry reflections, but it also makes the reflecting material act as transparent in the areas that should be reflecting. Basically it's turning my floor into a see-thru material. If I make a box and apply the same map, it renders fine, but then the color mapping makes it look like crap so I don't always like doing that.

    Any thoughts?

Don't use screen mapping for GI or Reflections

Aww, bummer man! So it just doesn't work, and never will? That's ok I guess, just as long as I know that I need to accept it and move on.

nope doesn't work...doesn't mean you cant map it onto a plane and go from there....

Yeah, I guess thats what I need to do. One other quick question...there is probably a way for that plane to not be included in the alpha channel, but I don't know how to do that. Basically I just want to be able to replace that background once I get it into PS.

          Thanks Eric & Percy

To have it ignored in the alpha go into the VrayProperties for the background card and set the alpha contribution to -1

Hmm, I just tried that and it didn't seem to work. But it always helps to have a definite answer, so I will just try it again until I get it right. Thanks.

I finally got the alpha problem solved. It wasn't the Vray properties of the actual object, but rather the material applied to it. Changed that to -1 and works great now. Could be because I was using a standard material with a Vray mat wrapper on it. Voila.
