  • Max crashes after updating to 6.1

More people experiencing Max crashes after updating to 6.1? I've had multiple files file crashing on opening and some while working in them after I've updated to 6.1?

I'm going to revert back to 6 hotfix 3 (if that is possible) and see if it helps.

    Hello,

If you still haven't reverted - can you send us a crash dump from Max when a crash happens. It should be named 3dsmax_minidump.dmp and be located in your temp folder (type %TEMP% in the windows explorer address bar).

    Best regards,

I have allready reverted, but the dumpfile is still there (and it's from before going back to 6 hotfix 3). Where can I send the file to?

Happened to me also. max 2023 crashes when loading one of my large files. Reverted to hotfix 3 and the file loads just fine.

Thanks for the minidump. If you are wiling to do some experiments - can you try to set an environment variable VRAY_DEFERRED_LOADER_NUM_THREADS with a value 0 and then start Max and open the large file in question ?

Other than that - can you share some details on your machine specs - I'm interested in the number of cores/threads ?

Here's a small guide on setting env vars from our docs: https://docs.chaos.com/display/VNS/G...ment+Variables

Thanks for testing this and sorry for the inconvenience.

I've set the environment variable as you said, and so far so good!

                        I'm running a Threadripper 1950X (16 cores, 32 threads), Windows 10. I can try the environment a bit later

0 turns OFF the new feature to defer the bitmap loading as it is the one causing issues.

We'll try to get a fix soon and you won't need to set any environment variables.

Hi I encountered also crashing on some scenes open after update to 6.1 (Max 2022.3). Vray log says nothing. Max log something.

                              https://pastebin.com/wNfZj3ak

                              Using env var doesnt help

Also I have crashes after using some new Qt widgets (for example switching secondary gi) and Max log shows some problems with Qt

One note: it crashing after scene in saved with vray 6.1 loaded. If its scene saved before update it loads fine.
