  • Vray Denoiser does not produce render elements for standalone denoising

I upgraded to Vray6_1.2 on 3dsMax 2024 and wanted to try out the denoiser workflow for animations. When I set my VrayDenoiser-Element to "only generate render elements" it only outputs RGB and Alpha. Using the standalone denoiser on these sequences does not work. I tried using .png, .exr and .vrimg as output formats - to no avail. Other render elements DO work. When I use It does not work on any of my machines. I'm at a loss here and did not find any clues in the documentation. Right now I'm using direct denoising in my animations but would be thankful for any tips why the recommended workflow does not work for me.

Hi, thanks for posting. Are you using the Default V-Ray denoiser? I tested the V-Ray Denoiser and Denoiser Tool in a simple scene and found no issues no 3ds Max 2024 and V-Ray 6.10.08.

Yes, I use the default V-Ray Denoiser. I can see the render elements in the Vray VFB, but it does not write any files.

I found out, that, when I use "V-Ray raw image file" instead of "Separate render channels" it renders all neccesary elements to the .exr-file. Is that expected behaviour? I thought it should also work with "Separate render channels".

The "V-Ray raw image file" output is the one to use if you want to run it trough the standalone denoiser. It is not the same as "Separate render channels".
