    Hi all,

We can reproduce this material preview issue and will look into it.
As soon as we have more information will post here.

Enabling the 3ds Max material swatches from V-Ray Settings can be used as a temporary solution.

Yeah, been happening to me too. Switch to vray gpu and back fixes it for a little while for me.

Yes, and then it brakes again. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

Any issues in Slate? Not sure how anyone uses the old one

I still use it. I never really got comfortable in the slate editor.

Same in Slate as well, at least for the top level preview. The biggest problem with slate is the sheer size the window takes up in order to be useful IMO. I generally use the compact editor as I find it faster to navigate and edit a lot of materials quickly but switch to Slate whenever I have something that has a more complicated network of instanced nodes. Working with mutli/subs though is sometimes insane in Slate (think loading up the material for a proxy where each sub material is itself complicated).

Lastly for slate, I'm constantly worried that I'm going to accidentally delete a material or map by having it (or several) selected and hitting delete accidentally (or purposely even). I can never get a good sense of when I press "delete" if it's just removing it from the view or actually deleting it from the scene.

Those are my thoughts exactly. I use it when needed, but otherwise, the material editor does the job.

If the material is assigned to something in the scene then deleting it in Slate only deletes it from that view of Slate. You can always bring it back into slate with Get From Selected, or Get All Scene Materials.

If the materials or maps you delete are NOT applied to anything in the scene then they are gone. I find the delete key in Slate to be unreliable anyway (sometimes I end up deleting the selected object, even though Slate definitely has the focus). So I always delete with the Edit menu in Slate. I wish there was a right-click delete, as this makes it very clear what you are deleting.

I came to Max about 10 years go from Soft Image and Lightwave. So I never had to endure the old material editor. And being a nodes guys for even longer Slate just makes more sense to me. I like the visual view of the entire material. Though when materials get complex it doesn't matter what you use, it can be hard to follow.

It seems to be broken regardless. Has Chaos said anything about it? It seriously breaks everyone's workflow and almost bricks MAX.

Can confirm. At first no problem but then a reset scene and now it's there.
