There's some discussion of this crash on the Autodesk Slack for 3ds Max beta testing, and another user indicated they're able to repro with just a Normal texture and an Emissive texture.

Thanks for the provided scene. I did a bit of troubleshooting and the issue seems to stem from the custom attribute (named Alpha Mode; rollout at the bottom of the VRayMtl), present in the shader itself. I am unable to edit/delete the custom attribute to confirm this (3ds Max's Parameter Editor does not show the attribute), however, recreating the shader and doing the mentioned steps do not cause a crash - the only difference is the said custom attribute. I'll continue troubleshooting to see if this is a general thing.

Thanks for verifying and finding the custom attribute. I think that might be added by this plugin: https://nu1963u.wixsite.com/custom3d...luginfor3dsmax

        A few more observations:
        - Are you sure you are using 3ds Max 2024.2 ? The Color Management no longer has an OK button there ? We managed to reproduce the crash with 2024.1 where the dialog has an Ok button indeed.. but it no longer happens in 2024.2
        - Can you test with the current V-Ray version (6.2) instead of the older 6.1 ?

        Best regards,

          Thanks for looking into this.

I have installed 6.2, but I can reproduce the same crash behavior.

You seem to be running some non official/beta Max 2024 ? This is what the official one looks like:

The version is different and the whole dialog is no longer in the Preferences.

Ah, thanks. We are developing plugins for Max, so it's probably the developer version which is causing this. I will try the latest official release.
