  • Bright horizontal surfaces

When doing architectural work, I am consistently having a problem lighting my horizontal (site) surfaces. When lighting looks good for the building, I always get washed out overbright site surfaces. I almost always have to render all sitework separately in order to adjust the lighting to it and composite. I generally use a directional light with Vray shadows and a bit of Vray environment fill. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. Harold

Can you show an image to demonstrate better what the problem is?
    Thank you!

you could always put the horizontal surfaces materials in a vraymtlwrapper and then lower the receive GI.

But yeah if you could post a render of the problem that would be very helpfull.

Upload it here if you dont have any webspace.

I've uploaded a small sample file to the imageshack site. The textures for the grass and paving surfaces are nearly black in order to get them to even this level. Lighting is just one Direct with Vray shadows at 1.2. Thanks. Harold

I don't see any shadows. Could this be causing it? Also, are you using any environment light?

There are shadows, just not showing up in this little cropped area. No environment light. H
