  • Help with Vraydisplacment

Hi all i have one question about displacement:

I have made one handpainted Displacement map in photoshop 256 levels of gray saved as a bmp 24 bit.

my problem is this even if in my painting is smooth there seems to be a problem or sensivity in Vraydisplacement because he make a very small noise over the whole model wich should not be there.

i use 3d mapping have also tested 2d but no difference is there anyone that knows a way for reducing the noise, i will be the most happiest girl that stopped smoking three days ago ever!

    Thx Linda

It might be something like the diagonal lines crossing over a grid mesh at very sharp angles - almost like the problems you get with antialiasing lines that are slightly off vertic or off horizontal. What does the mesh for the cushion look like? Maybe use a tesellated mesh in triangle mode with a high detail setting and turn down the subdivs in the vray displacement? You mightn't be feeding enough detail into the vray displacement to get a good result?

Use a 16-bit file format or adjust the bitmap blur settings; the lines that you see are the stepping levels in the displacement bitmap.

            Best regards,

i have tried to make a new painting but in 16 bit and now he works super no noise at all.

and now i must paint the whole DM from the beginning!!!!

Is it so or is there another solution for this?

Try to convert to 16bit first and then apply a blur to the image, I haven't tried it but that should work.
