  • Liquid Simulation High Mesh + V-ray 1.48.03

    Hi there,

I work at www.ingreme.com and it's the second time we're making some complex liquid simulations. From the first movie we used also v-ray but since it was a 75 frame animation, we could get rid of the problem in post, but this time is different.
So, if you have any tip of how to avoid face holes problems using high mesh settings, that would be great

I attach some temp renders so you can see the difference using three different render's.

    Thanks,
    Rui Romano

PS: Some of the things i've already tried... tried with v-ray light and standard spot. Standard spot avoids this face hole if i use standard material. And if i don't use reflections over v-ray material, it seems fine. So, i was assuming this could be reflection problem over v-ray but i don't know how to avoid them...
Also tried modifiers to cap face's, meshsmooth, u name it.

Yep, setting your ray bias to a small positive value should help.

      Best regards,

wow. thats a heavy mesh. why not use realflows mesh optimiser?
maybe if we ask nice enough we can get vlado to ask for the realflow SDK and create an export for realflow direct to vray mesh. Escentially realflows import to max is kiiiinda the same where all the data for the meshes is stored in an external file. but its not handeled the same was as a vray mesh at rendertime im guessing

The bottom line would be that you shouldn't be using 1.48.03, as it's not been released to the public, and it's BEEN for betatesters only.
Wherever you found it, it probably IS buggy.

                  Lo there,

So, i assume you're talking about bias from spotlight? If so, the problem occurs even without shadows on. So, it's ok until i turn on reflection of v-ray material. The problem occured even with other version of v-ray.So, without reflections is ok but when i turn them on, triangles start appearing...
If there is any problem on using this version, please say so. Ingreme bought two v-ray licenses and if we can't use this one, we'll delete it immediatly.
                  Please advise...

                  mental ray metal shader

                  v-ray with v-ray material - reflection off

v-ray with v-ray material - reflection on - glossy 0,7 (where triangles start appearing)

                  Thanks again,
                  Rui Romano

Not the Shadow bias, but the Secondary Ray Bias found in your render globals.

I didn't necessarily read Vlado's post as an implicit authorisation for us all to fetch and use the cracked version of 48.03.
                      Would you say i should?

You also might try turning on reflect on backside, might be expensive on this one though.

Super thanks guys... it really worked out! 0,01 at secondary rays bias, i mean...

I spent one whole day trying different settings, materials, etc... arf arf!

So, i'll wait for any instructions from vlado about this version i'm using.

                          Once again, super thanks!

                          cheers by now
